A country boy Essay

Not simply my relatives and I, each Cambodian resident is the survivor of destruction, the demonstration which ended the lives of around 2,000,000 Cambodian residents. One can say this is the revile that all Cambodians were to encounter while the others may state that it is our wrongdoing or karma. The war finished, and my family needed to begin from the scratch once more. I didn't generally have the foggiest idea how hard my grandparents needed to experience to bring up four kids, yet I encountered growing up living in a one-story level which was the sanctuary of at any rate ten relatives. In contrast to different children, I once in a while observed my folks since my dad needed to work far away from home, and my mom was all the while seeking after her Bachelor Degree in Biology. I burned through a large portion of my adolescence with my grandparents. My grandma would consistently tie me despite her good faith to the clinic where she is as yet filling in as a resigned specialist while my granddad is a resigned authoritative staff of a similar emergency clinic, and was a previous Lon Nol’s flying corps. I can even now recall how I begrudged a portion of my beloved companions whom I called â€Å"Rich Kids†. During my absolute first day at school, my schoolmates were flaunting their new sacks, yet I just had a dark plastic pack to store my books and pencils. Different children were deriding that I didn't have a pack to convey my books to class. I was a calm child, and I decided to stay quiet. I returned home, and told my grandma that I needed a pack. It took her around possibly 14 days to get me a yellow utilized sack which cost around 1000 Riels or less. In spite of the fact that it was a pre-owned pack, I embraced my sack with bliss. I was a child from the region, and I didn't get an opportunity to go to costly language schools like some different children. Because of monetary imperative, my folks needed to send me to the language schools close by. I never did well in English class. I was the most exceedingly terrible understudy in my English class. Fortunately, my folks were in an ideal situation, and they sent me to a global school. The spot completely changed me. From a language understudy who never did well in class, I have now become an instructor of English. From an understudy who duplicated the entire perusing text to submit to the educator as a composing task, and got zero for stealing, I have now won four national composing grants. Once more, March and April this year have denoted another defining moment of the life of this nation kid. I was smacking my face to see whether it was a fantasy or reality. I used to be dismissed by the 26th positioning college in Asia, yet I got conceded and have been given a full grant to do a Master Degree at the second-best college in Asia which is one among the top colleges on the planet, and simultaneously, I was likewise among the residents of five Southeast Asian countries to be offered a full grant to seek after a Master Degree at perhaps the wealthiest college in Europe. I flopped on more than one occasion, and it doesn't imply that I would consistently come up short. I accept that life is brimming with conceivable outcomes. Life tests us to perceive how patient and how decided we are. Life doesn't slaughter us, however it educates us. With expectation and responsibility, I accept that an individual can roll out positive improvement to his or herself and to the general public. â€Å"I like the night. Thus the showering and the cares should be finished before then. However, the list of residents assigned to me was one of the hardest ones because 8 out of 9 residents on that list were for shower and clothing assistance and I only have 2 hours to comply. It was quite impossible obviously due to the number of residents to be taking cared of. And so it became attainable for me to do it. After that, I do not need to hurry because the rest of my residents will not attend the ceremony anyway. I was able to use proper time management towards my duty. Week 2 It was a morning shift and the list of residents that I need to look after were the ones who were very particular with their timings. For example, one resident would like to be showered first, the other one needs his food at 0900H, the other one needs to be showered at 0830H. Every little detail should be noted and carried out. Canadian Welfare State An Overview - 1982 Words

Canadian Welfare State Ramya Gobitharan Mr. Vallier CIE4U1 Friday September 26th 2014 If you were asked are you against or for the Canadian Welfare State, what would you answer? Prior to all of the research that I have constructed for this assignment, I had little knowledge about the Canadian Welfare State. There is a lot of criticism and support from those who are against and for the Canadian Welfare State, but what exactly is it? Before coming up with my opinion I had to get to know the Welfare State, its history, and the advantages and disadvantages of it. Prior to the great depression, there was no formal welfare system. The local governments sometimes helped people who were in need. Social welfare was first introduced in 1938 right before the Second World War. There was persistently high unemployment – reaching about 20%. This caused the provincial and federal government to begin providing relief programs and social assistance. The government continued to expand its spending on social welfare programs and by the 2nd half of the 1900s, the government started borrowing tons of money and using lots of tax dollars to uphold the social welfare safety net. . This concept came to the people as controversial. Some were opposed to the idea and others saw it as an improvement to the system. The Welfare State has its own benefits and drawbacks. Teen Drinking Is The Biggest Social Issues Among Young...

Teenage drinking is one of the largest social issues among young people today. Although about half of high schools today drink on a regular basis. (CDC) Most of them will say they only drink when they are at parties with their friends. If they started drinking at the age of fifteen there is a six percent chance that they will depend on alcohol when they get older. There are so many different problems with teen drinking that I can talk about. The big one I want to talk about is when teens drive when drinking. Ways to try and stop teen drinking is maybe by bring back Dare or have SADD in schools again. The CDC reports that about ten percent of teens in 2013 have drove after drinking alcohol. Multiculturalism in America

Immigrants from all around the world have been coming to America ever since the continent was discovered. The reasons that made people travel across the ocean were different, but all of them pursued the same desire for better life and happiness. Someone escaped the oppression in their motherland, someone ran from poverty and starvation, someone arrived as a refugee of war.Advertising We will write a custom critical writing sample on Multiculturalism in America specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Between the middle of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century the country has received over twenty five million immigrants. Flows of people from Britain, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Russia, Poland, Italy and Greece moved to the United States. Besides, the natives from Middle Eastern, African and Asian countries also came to live there. Finally, great numbers of immigrants from South America moved to the U. S. Today, the United States of America is one of the most multinational countries of the world. After millions of people of various backgrounds, religions and ethnicities have arrived and stayed in the U. S. multiple cultural clashes became inevitable. Some of the cultures and nations assimilated and adjusted, some mixed together with others. As a result, the appearance of a typical citizen of the United States is impossible to describe. Walking the streets of an American metropolis such as New York or Boston one will meet people of all kinds and backgrounds that were born and raised in the States. This country is often compared to a mixed salad or a stew, where the most diverse ingredients are cooked in one pot, creating a unique and original composition of flavors, making a dish that is unlike others. I certainly agree that the population of the United States has always been very multicultural, this country’s history and prosperity is based on the constant flows of immigration. For example, ind ustrialization in the U. S. was mainly pushed forward by millions of foreign arrivers that came to the American urban areas to work. Moving away from the food similes, I think that this country and its national diversity could be compared to a puzzle with a great number of pieces. All of the parts of this puzzle are different; sometimes it is hard to put them together because they do not seem to fit each other.Advertising Looking for critical writing on social sciences? Spending some effort, one will find a way to locate a couple of matching pieces and then attach more parts to the initial bit. More and more pieces put together allow the viewer see the bigger picture of the puzzle. It turns out that all of the parts that seemed so different are able to create quite a homogenous composition, and this is the strength of the final pictu re, its special feature. Even though the pieces seem so different, they are all interconnected, and each of them is a part of one enormous masterpiece. Of course, racial stereotypes and inequalities have created a lot of discomfort for the people of the U. S., but a lot of measures are taken by the country’s leaders to overcome discrimination based on ethnic background, and reduce the cultural clashes to the minimum. Most of the countries on our planet are shared by more than one nation; this is why the news programs are always filled with reports of cultural clashes between two neighboring ethnicities, just like the one happening at the moment between people of Russian and Ukrainian backgrounds on the territory of Ukraine. The special trait of the United States is that it managed to accumulate dozens of ethnicities, made them neighbors and empowered them to live in peace and work together for the prosperity of the whole nation. Re-Branding Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Re-Branding - Case Study Example Utilizing the case of Hunter Boots and the case study which was provided concerning how the firm was able to rebrand and ultimately turn the company around from near insolvency to rampant sales generation and growth, this brief analysis will be able to draw a high level of inference upon the means by which re-branding is effected as well as pointing to some of the key marketing concepts and theories that are oftentimes utilized in order to bring effective re-branding about. As such, rather than merely restating the case study in question, this particular analysis will seek to define the means whereby Hunter Boots was able to effect its rebranding and turn around via several different applications of marketing strategy and theory. Moreover, rather than merely elaborating upon some of the marketing mechanisms that Hunter Boots utilized in order to bring the firm back from the brink of extinction within the marketplace, the analysis will close with a particular word of warning. Such a w ord of warning is of course with relation to the fact that such a rebranding process that is ever-mindful of the realities of the marketplace is demanded to be perpetually engaged with if such a firm wishes to continue to have a place within the market. One of the very clear and present realities of the way in which markets behave and interact with the consumer and vice versa is with respect to the rapid level of change and fast changing consumer tastes. As such, the market for Hunter Boots had all but died out prior to the successful rebranding that took place. In this way, the relevant stakeholders of the firm found it necessary to institute a series of marketing theories and concepts in order to evoke a level of positive change within overall sales of Hunter’s line of boots. The first of these was to seek to reposition the brand. Whereas previously Hunter Boots had experienced a degree of appeal among wealthier segments of British society, the allure had since been lost as the style and limited product choice had come to be seen as stodgy and outdated. In such a manner, repositioning the brand to make it appeal to a broader audience was direly necessitated. Running tangentially to this need and reality of repositioning the brand, the firm found it expedient to seek to leverage the â€Å"upmarket†. This of course is a marketing concept that useful to understand with regards to the target market that the firm is attempting to leverage. With regards to how Hunter Boots sought to upmarket the product line, it was the understanding and realization of key individuals within the management of the firm that successful rebranding should not deviate too far from the originally strength and stigma that Hunter Boots originally entailed. In such a way, the ultimate intention was to market Hunter Boots as something of a chic aspect of â€Å"haute couture† that denoted a degree of sophistication and wealth. In such a way, the rebranding effort utilize d consumer desire to represent this exclusivity as a means of not only increasing sales but increasing the price per pair of boots approximately 20% (Coster, 2009). Two further marketing concepts which were heavily utilized in order to engage the consumer were with respect to the level and extent to which product differentiation and expansion of the product line were effected to increase overall sales. Whereas before the restructuring and rebranding of Hunter Boots, there were only two specific product offerings that the firm was able to exhibit, as a result of the rebranding efforts, the firm set out to explosively increase the overall number of style

Differences in Beliefs About the Causes of Health Disparties in Black Article

Differences in Beliefs About the Causes of Health Disparties in Black and White Nurses - Article Example The Caucasian nurses focus on genetic variables to determine the health disparities. The differences translate to different healthcare cultural competency skills trainings. The Article Reflects Good Management Practice. The principles in the article reflect good management practices. The African Americans correctly focus on the external factors in the pursuance of their healthcare activities (LaVeist, 2011). External activities affect the patients’ health. Consequently, resolving the issue of external healthcare providers enhances healthcare services. Implementing programs, improving communication and reducing discrimination in society resolve the disparities. Similarly, the Caucasian nurses focus on the genes. Gene research helps hasten the body’s recuperation process. The process indicates that some illnesses are triggered by certain gene formations. By focusing on rehabilitating the genes, the patient’s health improvement is hastened. The White nurses focus the â€Å"inner factors that are uncontrollable cause disparities (Chen et al., 2013. p. 275)†. These same nurses do not acquire external information in the patient rehabilitation process. The Caucasian nurses believe the patients’ genes triggered the ailments (LaVeist, 2011). I feel this is an important healthcare management article. The above article is important to the healthcare management process. By knowing how the African Americans think, the disparities can be address. By knowing how the Caucasian nurses think, disparities can also be address. Better understanding of the disparities between the two nursing groups will enhance the patient care outcomes. If the gene research shows that the patient’s health cannot be cured, the nurses accept the gene research findings (Chen et al., 2013). Further, the differences lead to variances in efforts to improve health conditions (Chen et al., 2013) For example, the

The Learning and Study Strategies Inventory Assessment Essay Example for Free

The Learning and Study Strategies Inventory Assessment Essay The overall experience completing the LASSI student report was interesting one due to the difficulty associated with being completely honest with yourself. This is definitely something that I have found to be a re-occurrence throughout this course, however due to the nature of the questions in this particular section, it proved to be the daunting questionnaire this course has required yet. After finishing the student report, I was able to conclude that the nature of the questions and the honesty involved paid off because I found this resource to be the most reflective and also the most helpful in targeting the weaknesses in my academic skills. My lowest two scores were in anxiety and time management, and I feel very confident that these two are closely related. I do not have issues in learning the actual content of courses, rather my problems occur in not effectively allotting time to learn it which in turn causes the stress and the two together result in poor exam performance. In order to avoid these issues which result in extreme stress come exam time I need to set aside time to effectively plan and schedule time and techniques for completing assignments and studying, then follow through with the derived plan. In my opinion, the LASSI assessment is not too different from the barriers assessment we completed during the first week of this course. Both assessments take a slightly different approach from each other, however the objectives of both are very much identical. The two assessments are designed to help an individual identify issues that are potentially detrimental to their success in class. My results for LASSI had not surprised me at all as it nearly mirrored the results of my barriers assessment. Since both results agreed with each other I could also conclude that I made little to no errors in the assessments. According to LASSI, my largest problems are that I lack motivation, concentration and I have a poor ability to select main ideas from concepts. Im only fairly concerned with my focus and concentration during study. My computer is very likely the most contributing factor to this problem. Im a Computer Science major so its very essential that I work with a computer. My notes and assignments are often stored and finished in it as well. I have attempted some viable solutions like using a task scheduler application for my computer. I can give it instructions forcefully close-off anything that may become a distraction for me on the computer based on a schedule you assign it. You can even ask it to temporarily disable off your internet. This solution doesnt work very well for me because I lack self-control as well. I often opt-out of this because I can never bring myself to disable any of my entertainment. I just shrug it off and lie to myself that I can deal with the distractions while studying well. This itself I believe is my biggest concern.

Problems With Leadership In IT :: Information Technology Essays

IT Leadership Paper As we go into the second part of the first decade of the new millennium the field of Information Technology has turned into a very important aspect of our lives. New and improved technologies are starting to become part of our lives without us realizing what this means. No one can argue that our lives have been simplified and improved by the technological gadgets, that over time we have been able to develop. But underneath the beauty of a product or a service lays the challenges and responsibilities many companies faced in order to be able to provide us with a service or to create a product. It is believed, that in many business, organizations or institutions the Information Technology Department is the area or the field that causes the most problems. One of the biggest reasons for which people tend to make this assumption or statement is that it has been hard to assimilate and integrate such a volatile department into the structure an organization had. People forget that having an IT department is a recent addition to the structural environment of a company or an institution. It was until computer became popular that people started to consider creating a department that would take care and provide technological solutions to the different issues that arouse due to the new technologies being implemented. Therefore it has to be taken into consideration that IT is an area that has not been fully developed to the extent of being completely incorporated into the traditional structure of a company. One of the reasons for which it has been tough to fully integrate the IT department is because of its constant change and need to stay up to date with the emerging technologies. When I say that it has not been fully integrated or incorporated I mean that we have not been able to understand the complexity of this assimilation in order to be able to get the best results. And by best results, I mean being able to come up with the best solution that arise with every situation and problem that comes up. It has been so hard to get out of this transitory situation due to the fact of communication problems. Companies and institutions took the wrong approach when the technologies started to emerge. Many top executives decided that it would be better to let the people that knew about computers and programming to focus in the technological area.

How Our Culture Glorifies One Sex Over the Other in Dating Essay

In his musings â€Å"A Note on Vulnerability and Responsibility†, Hugo Schywyzer comments, â€Å"Men, it seems, can’t distinguish being wanted as a partner and being needed as a protector and provider. † Women have always been held in high regard when it comes to dating. This is because women, through time, have always been viewed as weak and in need of protection. This view has carried over to our new era of woman empowerment and independence. These views have slowly changed over the decades though and beginning in the 1960’s, women have slowly evolved into an equal partnership with men. These days, women and men earn their place in their relationships. The glorification is no longer automatic even while you are simply dating one another. Men have traditionally held the more responsible role of being mature and more understanding in a relationship. These days though, maturity and respect in a relationship are considered a two-way street where a dating couple would rather find a common middle ground rather than the man letting the woman have her way in the relationship. Although a woman’s decision is still glorified in terms in dating, women today tend to use their prerogative to find an outlet that they both will enjoy. It is no longer just a woman who must enjoy a date these days and the women prefer it that way. Although, the continually evolving area of dating has proven that women do not necessarily have to date. It is perfectly acceptable for women to opt for independence and remain single. Women no longer like being placed on a pedestal where men seemingly glorify them for the sake of their egos. Women no longer respond in a resigned manner to sexist treatment. Women will no longer accept that she is inferior and, judged to be mentally inferior to the male. Women feel respected these days when a man listens to what she has to say and considers her suggestions. Men seem to prefer a woman who shares her thoughts because the responsibility for dating enjoyment and relationship building no longer falls squarely on the man’s shoulders. Consider my personal situation as an example. I work in the Armed Services and yet it does not affect my relationship with men. Instead of being threatened by my position, which used to be solely a man’s job, most men who know me admire me for my courage and sense of duty and responsibility. These are traits that I carry over into my personal relationships that produces a smooth flowing and open line of communication and understanding with my partner. Since we both have input into how to improve our relationship, we have built a strong bond that cannot be questioned and need not be doubted. We are equals and partners in everything we do. These days, a man is no longer relegated to the protector and provider role. This evens out the responsibility in a relationship and allows the woman to ask her man to treat her as an equal while still being vulnerable and in need of protection. It can be said that men now treat women as their equal in every way even with the limitations set in place not by man, but by Mother Nature herself. Our culture no longer dictates that we glorify one sex over the other when it comes to dating. A woman no longer needs to pretend to be vulnerable and like a porcelain doll just to make the man feel strong. Men now get their glorification by living up to their commitments and vows in a relationship. Glorification of one sex over the other is no longer the norm. The bible lectures women to be submissive to their husband, that has not been the case for decades now. These days, women have the right to say no if she feels a situation is not right for her. Men can no longer assume for example, that when he says he is moving to another state, his girlfriend or wife will automatically go with him. Women these days have more things to consider like their jobs, family, friends — unlike before when she was simply a stay at home person who was expected to do a man’s bidding. M These days, a woman’s opinion is recognized as needed and therefore must be considered. Dating these days are based on totally new sets of rules based on woman empowerment and independence. Certain sports like soccer, golf, tennis, and basketball now have equivalent female leagues. While activities such as rock climbing, handy work around the house, and car repairs, which used to be the sole realm of men have seen a fair share of women accomplishing the same tasks without the hindrances one may have ordinarily expected. Responsibility of making a relationship, or even just a simple date, work is now a shared task that no longer glorifies or spotlights one sex over the other. This I further reinforced by the mass media of today with shows such as Sex at the City, Friends, Grey’s Anatomy, and Alias. All the women on these shows equal their male counterparts in every way. The barriers of social enjoyment have been torn down by these shows and empowered women to become an active participant in choosing their life mate. These shows encourage woman to take the initiative for dating or any other companionship activity provided that she is comfortable doing so. It is okay for a woman to be aggressive to a certain degree. A woman asking a man out on a date is no longer frowned upon since men can sometimes be just as shy as the woman when asking for a date. It is okay for a woman to change her own flat tire. It is no longer an issue if a woman has more intellectual know how than men. Women like these gain the respect of the significant other who glorify the woman who earned the right to be treated equally and not because tradition and society has dictated it to be that way. Society now dictates the women prove themselves if they want to be respected. Women have proven it many times over. Women are now leading and formidable figures in the fields that were exclusively for men in the past such as politics (Hillary Clinton – senator), and business (Oprah Winfrey – Mass Media). Outline of † How Our Culture Glorifies One Sex over the Other in Dating† Lead-in – There is a belief that our culture glorifies one sex over the other when it comes to dating. Thesis – â€Å"These days our culture no longer glorifies one sex over the other in dating because all responsibilities and tasks are now a shared effort on the part of the man and woman. † Conclusion: Be it a male or female, the dating couple want to earn the respect of their partner and earn the respect and glorification that is accorded to them as a productive significant other in the dating relationship. Beginners Guide to Declarative Sentences

In English grammar, a declarative sentence (also known as a declarative clause) is a statement that—true to its name—declares something. Declarative statements consist of a subject and a predicate and are the most common type of sentence in the English language. In contrast to a command  (imperative), a question  (interrogative), or an exclamation  (exclamatory), a declarative sentence expresses an active state of being in the present tense. In a declarative sentence, the subject generally precedes the verb, and it almost always ends with a period. Types of Declarative Sentences As with other types of sentences, a declarative sentence can be either simple or compound. A simple declaratory sentence is the union of a subject and a predicate, as simple as a subject and verb in the present tense. A compound declarative joins two related phrases together with a conjunction and a comma. Simple declarative:  Lilly loves gardening. Compound declarative: Lilly loves gardening, but her husband hates weeding. Compound declaratives can be joined with a semicolon rather than a comma. Such sentences carry the same meaning and are equally correct grammatically. For example, in the above sentence, you would swap out the comma for a semicolon and delete the conjunction to arrive at this sentence: Lilly loves gardening; her husband hates weeding. Declarative vs. Interrogative Sentences Declarative sentences usually end with a period, however, they can also be phrased in the form of a question. The difference is that an interrogative sentence is asked in order to obtain information, while a declarative question is asked in order to clarify information.   Interrogative: Did she leave a message? Declarative: She did leave a message? Note that in a declarative sentence, the subject comes before the verb. Another easy way to tell the two sentences apart is to substitute a period for the question mark in each example. A declarative sentence would still make sense if you punctated it with a period; an interrogative would not. Incorrect: Did she leave a message. Correct: She did leave a message. Imperative and Exclamative Sentences It can be fairly easy to confuse declarative sentences with imperative or exclamative ones. Sometimes when a sentence expresses a statement of fact, what looks like an exclamative may actually be an imperative (also known as  a directive). Though its a less common form, an imperative gives advice or instructions, or it may express a request or command. While its unlikely youll come across an instance where an imperative is confused with a declarative, it all depends on the context: Imperative: Please come to dinner tonight. Exclamative: Come to dinner! my boss demanded. Declarative: Youre coming to dinner tonight! That makes me so happy! Modifying a Declarative As with other  types of sentences, declaratives can be expressed in either a positive or negative form, depending on the verb. To distinguish them from imperatives, remember to look for a visible subject. Declarative:  You arent needed. Interrogative:  Dont be impolite. If youre still having difficulty distinguishing the two types of sentences, try expressing both with a tag question added for clarification. A declarative sentence will still make sense; an imperative wont. Correct: You arent needed, are you? Incorrect: Dont be impolite, will you?
